Lois and Thatcher

My last consulting job was at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, June 2004.
During this site visit, when I wasn't consulting I was gathering material or writing.  After a
great deal of rewriting, seven pieces emerged that seemed to form a coherent evening:
The Middletown Etudes.  Why "etudes"?  In each piece I was trying to meet a different
set of technical challenges.  Lois and Thatcher (originally titled
Oh Dear!) is one of
several two-character pieces, written between 2004 and the present, that are set in the
Chestnut Hill Apartments .  The apartments are one above the other.  The sets are
virtually identical: a love seat and a few occasional pieces.  Only the details (e.g. pictures
on the walls) indicate different residents.  In
Lois and Thatcher, I was playing with
physical stasis: two seventy-somethings skirmishing on a love seat.

To the play.
