Welcome to Group
This is the third one-act play in the series of three that might constitute an evening of
one-acts about groups. The play was written in 2003 and revised many times after
that. My research took place in an actual men's support group (aka therapy group)
that I attended for three months. It was a wonderful experience, very helpful to me.
As with other pieces that I have written, this one started out as a monolog for me to
do in acting class. The rhythm -- people talking in the same room but not necessarily
connecting with one another -- is one that I have used frequently. Does the play
have an arc, a throughline, or whatever? I doubt it. It is maybe more a character
study than anything else.
To the play.
