Wonderful You!
This ten-minute play is one of two in the Main Street section of the Middletown etudes.
It placed among the top ten in the Southern SlamFest (South Carolina) and was
performed there in 2004. I don't currently have access to the names of the director and
the actors. The SlamFest Artistic Director took this on as a pet project because, as a
graduate of the Actors Studio, New York, she wanted to introduce local audiences to
something "edgy." She subsequently told me that the audience seemed a bit confused
by it. I wonder why. This is my sleazy little Beckett play. The title was given me by my
wife as a sort of dare. My interpretation was to write a piece in which no pronoun but
"you" appeared. I think I'd be confused too if someone pulled this kind of trick on me.
The play was produced in the 2007 San Diego Actors Festival and seemed to be a
great favorite with the audience.
To the play.
